A few people have asked about ol' Krimpet so: we took her back to the vet for another sonogram. Naturally, nothing conclusive but they said her spleen was very enlarged and suggested we take it to the next leve--visit an internist, get yet another sonogram and so on. Unfortunately, the And So On covers a lot of ground, including a possible endoscopy and eventual possible removal of her spleen altogether. It's a depressing sitatuation. Long time readers may recall that last year we had to put our other cat, Cadbury, down after he underwent an endoscopy/colonoscopy and came out of the procedure substantially worse for wear and the idea of her going through all that and us going through it again is just too dreadful to imagine. She's fifteen years-old so how much do you put her through? But the other option--do nothing, basically, other than to give her medications to make her as comfortable as possible--is also tough. The good news is that for the most part she seems comfortable for now. She still has an appettite and seems happy spending most of the day sleeping on the heater. The ominous signs are that her pooing is way behind schedule (considering that she's still eating) and, paradoxially, she's losing weight at an alarming rate. We did make an appointment to see the internist on Tuesday, but we're really going to make it clear we don't want to do any kind of surgery or even invasive probing. Kristen and I have resigned ourselves to making her as comfortable as we can for as long as she seems to not be suffering, though we're not sure how long that will be. A vet told our friends Tony and Chris that their cat's kidneys had stopped and that she had a few months to live--but stuck around for another five years with seemingly little discomfort until the very end of her life. Stories like that always make you hold out but I'm afraid poor Krimples time may be running out.

Has anyone else been getting these annoying pop-up ads on the Live Journal lately? I've been neglecting my blogging duties here enough as it is and that certainly isn't going to help matters.
As much as I enjoy the Facebook and tolerate the Twitter I still miss the days when LJ was thriving.
Noted faith-healer/con artist Oral Roberts was finally called home at age 91.

Well, we got her back from the vet today. They kept her overnight to enemize her out and get her rehydrated. Aside from some ongoing things she's had for awhile--one of her kidneys is kind of wonky and her spleen is enlarged, during the sonogram they noticed a possible growth in her small intestines. We're supposed to go back next week and have it looked at again since it was hard to tell with all the, uh, matter inside. Stay tuned and thanks to the people who sent us the good vibes.
Our cat Krimpet has an appointment with the vet today. There's no polite way to put it except that she hasn't pooped in three days. We think. The options are that she has pooped, just not some place we can find it but since we live in a two bedroom apartment and the it's winter so the windows are all shut I would hope we'd notice it. The other second option is very unlikely since we've been monitoring her litterbox habits pretty closely so I won't even go into it.
The good news is that if it wasn't for that you'd never know anything was wrong with her. She's still eating and drinking normally, spends most of her day sleeping and the yowling problem we chronicled a month ago has more or less stopped. About two weeks, ago we noticed she was straining to go poo but giving her laxitone seemed to help so we figured it was just a passing thing.
She's about fifteen years old so she's definitely getting up there and we're a little worried that this could be the start of some tough decisions. Wish us luck!

I'll take a moment away from plugging my own Christmas product to hype another one: my own brother, the slightly shorter Andrew Robinson, and his friend Pete put out a Christmas CD last year. Not only did I do some of the artwork (above) but on the song "Merry Christmas, Santa!" I play the part of Kris Kringle himself! http://www.thesleighboys.com/

I can't explain what it is about this that is so funny and mesmerizing.

Yesterday we brought ol' Wrig to the Petco where you could get a free photo of your pet on Santa's lap. It's very silly but just a short walk away so what the heck.
I was surprised they had a lady playing Santa Claus! I guess jolly fat men are in high demand this time of year so they had to make do. That morning I'd read A Kidnapped Santa Claus to a bunch of kids at the Greenlight Bookstore, and afterwards we put up our Christmas decorations and it snowed for the first time, so it was a very Christmassy day.
